Abstract

With a deep sense of responsibility, I am honored to introduce myself as the new Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Medical Education and Curricular Development (JMECD). As I step into this role, I am eager to contribute to the journal's continued excellence and guide its future direction in an ever-evolving field such as health professions education (HPE).
First, I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to the previous Editors-in-chief for their invaluable contributions. Their leadership and vision have been instrumental in shaping the journal into the respected platform it is today. I would also like to acknowledge the outstanding work of the internal Sage Publishing team, whose dedication and support have been vital to the journal's success. Together, their efforts have solidified JMECD's position as a leading voice in HPE, and I am committed to building on this strong foundation.
Our Vision and Priorities
As we embark on this new chapter, I want to share my vision for the journal and the priorities guiding our efforts.
Embracing Diversity and Inclusion
In the field of HPE, embracing diversity is not just an option but a necessity. Our journal is committed to prioritizing the exploration of diversity issues within HPE, including the unique challenges different demographic groups face and the influence of cultural, social, and economic factors on healthcare education. We are dedicated to actively seeking contributions from underrepresented voices and advocating for diverse perspectives that enrich the discussion and inform practice by either the reception of original research manuscripts or Special issue proposals. Your unique perspectives are what make the journal a rich and comprehensive resource.
Promoting Interdisciplinarity
The future of healthcare is increasingly interdisciplinary, and so must be the education of those who will lead it. JMECD will actively seek submissions that explore the intersections of HPE with fields such as psychology, sociology, and technology. By fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, we aim to uncover new insights and approaches to enhance the educational experience and improve patient care. We will also encourage publications in various formats, such as Special Issues, Commentaries, and Letters, to attract critical and thought-provoking research.
Supporting Emerging Scholars
Nurturing the next generation of educators and researchers is a core priority for JMECD. We are committed to providing opportunities for early career scholars to contribute to the journal and engage in the editorial process as reviewers or as active Associate Editors. By supporting emerging talent, we can ensure the continued growth and innovation of the field. We are exploring new ways to incentivize reviews and acknowledge reviewers’ contributions, as the timely adjudication of submissions is essential to maintaining the quality and impact of our journal. Your potential and fresh perspectives will drive our field's future.
Expanding Our Reach and Impact
In an era where digital engagement is crucial, we are committed to expanding JMECD's presence on social media and other platforms. By fostering dialogue and engagement within the broader HPE community through asynchronous and synchronous formats, we aim to create a more cohesive and well-informed community that can collectively address the challenges faced in health education. We will also introduce initiatives on the website to make our content more accessible to a broader audience, broadening the reach of our articles and increasing JMECD's impact.
Our Team
To achieve these goals, I am supported by a dedicated team on the Editorial Board who bring diverse backgrounds and expertise to the journal. Their involvement will help us maintain the quality of JMECD while strengthening its position as a central forum for advancing HPE.
As we continue to grow and innovate, we seek passionate and knowledgeable individuals to join our team as Associate Editors or members of the Editorial Board. If you are committed to advancing medical education and contributing to the future of health, I invite you to explore how you can be a part of this exciting journey.
A Call to Action
Your scholarly contributions are not just welcome; they are essential to the success of JMECD. We urge you to submit your latest research, innovative methodologies, and insightful reviews to the journal. We also invite you to lend your expertise as reviewers, as your participation is vital to maintaining the high standards of our publication. Our goal is not only to represent the current state of HPE but to contribute to the forefront of academic exploration. Your contributions are what make this possible.
Looking Ahead
As I take on the role of Editor-in-Chief, I am excited about the possibilities. I look forward to working with our editorial team, authors, and readers to build upon the journal's tradition of academic excellence while exploring new directions and opportunities. Together, we can advance the field of HPE education and impact the future of health.
Thank you for your ongoing support and engagement with the JMECD.
