Abstract
This article discusses how Star Trek (2009), a movie from the popular Star Trek franchise, could be used as a resource to discuss adaptive leadership as one of the relatively recent leadership styles. The movie provides a relevant context to help management students become more familiar with adaptive leadership style and its applicability in managing complex and dynamic situations, particularly when experiencing unprecedented events and crises. In today’s dynamic and competitive business world, understanding this leadership style will better prepare management students to succeed in their careers. In this article, we share our experience using this resource in two management courses, provide breakdowns of key scenes for instructors interested in using it, analyze the leadership styles of the movie’s main characters, and present our overall analysis of this resource and its effectiveness.
