Abstract
The purpose of this study was to determine the social studies series adoption policies of midwestern school districts. In addition, the study identified the most popular and successful series currently in use. The data was provided by elementary principals in 186 randomly selected school districts. The majority of school districts followed a single series adoption policy. The series was generally adopted for use in all elementary grades. The most popular series were those published by Follett, Holt, Laidlaw, and Silver-Burdett. The principals were generally satisfied with the series that had been adopted for use in their school district.
