Abstract
Geographic information systems (GIS) offer the potential for analytic and problem solving approaches for understanding geographic aspects of waler, and other natural resources. In addition, GIS’s capacity for examining areal matters from a multitude ofperspectives and the fact that the use ofGlS encourages analysis, it may enhance learning in upper elementary grades. This study employed GIS as the primary vehicle for teaching sixth grade students about water resources. It disclosed that a manual GIS, overlays using transparencies, was more effective than was the microcomputer driven GIS. Students perceptions regarding waler concepts were also assessed in the study.
