Abstract
When considering the impact of the radical community on education, one should examine the Modern School movement This movement began in Europe and spread to the United States in the early 1900’s. It was supported by the Syndicalists in France and Spain, but in the United States was adopted by the Anarchist movement. What was the educational philosophy of the Modern School movement and what did they hope to achieve through it? What was the impact of the Modern School on the Social Studies in America? Was the philosophy of the Modern School truly a radical departure fromthe American mainstream?
