In a case study of the social studies planning and leaching of two first year teachers, it was found that the social studies methods course is influential on teachers' beliefs. The implementation of those beliefs, however, was constrained by the ecology of the classroom situation. The teacher's views of the curriculum were found to be particularly influential.
