Abstract
This article is a description of the changes taking place in citizenship education in Hungarian schools as a result of the move away from a communist system. The information was gathered in the summer of 1990 as part of a Fulbright-Hays Study Group in Hungary. The author wishes to express his deepest gratitude to the numerous scholars, teachers and students who participated in interviews and discussions about this project.
