Abstract
To gain perspective on the social studies curriculum activity of the recent past, data regarding the impact of selected social studies curriculum project materials (CPMs) are synthesized and evaluated. Three impact variables are examined-extent of classroom use, user liking of the CPMs, and CPMs effectiveness in promoting learning compared to traditional programs. The results suggest that the social studies CPMs have had a moderate, positive impact. The CPMs have seen considerable if not widespread use, and they are well liked by the teachers who use them. Also, they appear to be as or more effective than traditional programs in promoting student learning.
