Abstract
The family papers of the owners of a business firm based at Churu (northern Rajasthan) enable us to study how it functioned in late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. Especially important was the way it managed its various branches over a large region of northern India. The article also examines its relations with the Indian princes and the British authorities.
