Hindu chiefs in Sultanate polity (thirteenth and fourteenth centuries)

Abstract

This article is a study of changing positions of Hindu chiefs in the Delhi Sultanate from the Ghaznavid origins to the fourteenth century. It is argued that a section of the chiefs from being rural potentates began turning into Sultanate commanders and bureaucrats.
