Abstract
Context: Many interventions have been developed to promote healthier lifestyles. However, they fall short of achieving their intended effectiveness. A significant limitation is the lack of a user-centered approach in designing the interventions, decreasing the likelihood of their success. This study directly addresses this limitation by focusing on enhancing the information usability of future educational lifestyle interventions by identifying valuable user insights. Objective: Our primary goal is to identify design features that can be incorporated to increase the usability of lifestyle interventions. Design: Retrospective verbal reports, interviews, and open-ended survey questions were all used to collect user insights on two novel information videos. Insights will help to refine the video interventions and provide insights into design features that could help increase the effectiveness of future educational interventions. Results: Many design recommendations were identified that can help bolster information product usability, including incorporating more data, research, citations, and visual cues to increase the information’s trustworthiness and understandability. Conclusion: Results identify actionable strategies that can be implemented to enhance the usability of future educational interventions, underscoring the crucial role of information usability in optimizing outcomes.
