Abstract
The research presented in this paper focuses on best practice analyses for a non-traditional electronic medical record (EMR) application. CampDoc, an electronic medical records system specifically designed for day and overnight camps as well as small care facilities (e.g. daycare centers) was examined. Over 12, 000 camps operate in America, looking after 11, 000, 000 people each year making them a unique application for EMRs (American Camping Association, 2012). The analysts' goals were to improve upon the user experience within CampDoc by increasing the ease of use and the clarity of content via human factors techniques. Specific emphasis was placed on understanding and designing for users who might not possess medical training and identifying how medicine is practiced in non-traditional medical settings.
