Abstract
Introduction:
Elbow injuries are frequently seen in throwing and overhead athletes ( overhead athlete as someone who participates in sports that require high levels of upper extremity mobility, strength, and stability, such as swimming, volleyball, water polo, softball, tennis, lacrosse, baseball, javelin, gymnastics, Olympic weightlifting, and more).
Objective:
This paper is to review Ultrasonographic roles in diagnosing elbow sport injuries
Discussion:
There are 2 types of injury, acute and chronic ( repetitive microtrauma ) and chronic overuse injuries are more common than acute traumatic fractures and dislocations. The mechanism of injury to the elbow such as force dissipation from valgus overload in overhead throwing athletes , and lateral compression and medial distraction injuries in gymnasts. Early detection for elbow injury is very important to prevent further complications. Radiography and MRI have proven effective for detecting early elbow injury, but sonography can be used for early assessment which more safe, inexpensive, and portable. Ultrasonographic Technique is very importance to increase the Accuracy of Elbow Sports Injuries. Utrasonography (US) offers a widely accessible and can be used to directly evaluate superficial soft-tissue injury such as ligament or tendon tears or neurovascular injuries.
Conclusion:
The use of ultrasonography recently play an importance roles for diagnostic imaging tool because of its availability, tolerability, low cost, and utility in real-time dynamic evaluation.
