It has been brought to the publisher’s attention that the article “Issues of
Landlessness, Contract and Corporate Farming,” by Amit Kumar Bose, published in the
Journal of Land and Rural Studies (Volume 1, Issue 1) included substantial portions of
text from an earlier article written by Prof. Sukhpal Singh, titled “Corporate Farming
in India: Is it Must for Agricultural Development?” (IIMA working paper No. 2006-11-06).
Huge chunks in pages 32 to 39 of the article are verbatim copying of Prof. Singh’s work,
without adequate permission from him and adequate attribution. The Editors of LRS and
the Publisher extend their sincere apology to Prof Singh for this failure to credit his
work.
This article profiles the nature and extent of companies being involved in farming and
examines its effect on the farmers in the Indian context. The article tries to explain how
contract farming is a more preferred venture than corporate farming, in terms of farmers’
security, financial stability and small land holding viability.
