Abstract

Dwyer EP and Moed BR. Venous thromboembolism after hospital discharge in pelvic and acetabular fracture patients treated operatively. Journal of Orthopaedic Surgery, 27(1) first published on 3 March 2019. DOI: 10.1177/2309499019832815
The authors’ study is an analysis of the State Inpatient Database (SID), a restricted-access, publicly available data set that is maintained by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ). One of the provisions of the State Data Use Agreement (DUA), which the first author signed when purchasing the data, is that no data observation involving less than or equal to 10 observations is to be published. This measure was put in place by AHRQ to protect individual patients’ privacy and to prevent the potential disclosure of personal information. In the manuscript, there are some tabulated cells that are in violation of this provision. This represents an oversight on the first author’s part and an inadvertent failure to comply with the Data Use Agreement. For this, the authors apologize. While the authors are fully confident that nothing in their paper could be used to identify individuals or their personal information, the fact remains that the disclosures are in violation of the AHRQ guidelines. The authors have therefore asked the editors of the Journal of Orthopaedic Surgery to post a revised online version of the paper that is in compliance with the AHRQ guidelines and request that, going forward, authors cite the corrected version of our manuscript.
A version of the manuscript with the corrections highlighted has been appended to this correction notice for reference. The online version of the article has been corrected.
