Abstract

At the University of Dar es Salaam Amin would be remembered by many students of the 1960s to 1980s as a great teacher who influenced their way of thinking, and how to critically engaging with ideas. His views shaped students’ and staffs’ debates on the question of development for the countries of the South. Delinking was a popular subject and Amin’s views on it was at the center of the debate. Amin’s works are today not as popular and familiar with students and staffs as they used to be in the 1980s. This however did not deter Amin from engaging with a body of students and staff when he visited the university and delivered a lecture in 2017. As was typical of him he concluded his engagement with a powerful argument for radical delinking and building of socialism as the inevitable alternative for the liberation of the people of the South.
