Abstract

Welcome to the first issue of Laboratory Automation News, a bimonthly newsletter devoted to presenting ALA members with up-to-date information about current developments in the field of laboratory automation and robotics. This newsletter will provide practical articles on commercially available technology as well as technology that will shape the laboratory of the future. Articles will appear which will be of general laboratory interest, plus others which will focus on the needs of selected laboratory disciplines. For example, this issue will present articles on laboratory standards for our general audience as well as focus articles on clinical laboratory and analytical laboratory automation.
The field of Laboratory Automation encompasses a breadth of disciplines including the pharmaceutical, environmental, agricultural, food, clinical, toxicological, and other industries. Furthermore, laboratory automation impacts the careers and daily lives of technologists, supervisors, managers, and directors alike. LAN will bring to this diverse audience a resource which will contain many concise articles pointing to sources of more in-depth information. By reading LAN, automators will be able to find links to the detailed information they need from a single source instead of having to leaf through scores of other journals on a monthly basis. Future issues will expand our product focus so that vendors may bring the latest automation products to your attention. Topics will include:
High-Throughput Screening
Microfabrication Techniques (“Nanotechnology”)
Drug Discovery
Artificial Intelligence
High Data Throughput Handling
Environmental Analysis
Can the Internet Increase Productivity?
Sample Preparation Robots
We welcome submission of articles for consideration for publication. Please submit your ideas to the editor or any member of the scientific committee of the International Conference on Automation and Robotics (ICAR).
Sincerely,
