Welcome to the “New” JALA!
This issue marks the first published by SLAS in partnership with SAGE. We are excited and optimistic about our new working relationship with SAGE and the opportunities we believe it will bring to our future. For starters, you will notice that the inside pages of the journal have a new look. JALA’s updated new page format is not only more contemporary in appearance but is also optimized for viewing via mobile devices.
JALA Online
As part of our new publishing partnership with SAGE, JALA Online has moved and is also now optimized for mobile devices. You can reach JALA Online through SLAS.org or directly at jala.sagepub.com. Once SLAS LAS members arrive at the new JALA Online, here’s how it works.
To establish your JALA Online access:
Go to the SAGE Journals Online Web site at https://online.sagepub.com/cgi/activate/basic.
Where it says “Activate Your Online Subscription,” enter your SLAS member ID and select Society for Laboratory Automation and Screening (SLAS) from the dropdown menu and click “submit.” If you do not know your SLAS member ID, visit your personal profile in the SLAS member directory located in the Community section of SLAS.org.
On the Instructions page, be sure to check your personal data. Enter a username and password and click “submit” to confirm activation. Do not click the Journal Title link until the confirmation process is complete.
To access JALA articles:
After you’ve activated your account, return to JALA Online and select the journal cover or click on “current issue.”
To browse past issues in the archives, click on “all issues.”
To search for articles by title, author, or keyword, use the Search This Journal or Advance Journal Search tools.

Please remember that to access the scientific content at JALA Online for free, you must be a dues-paying member of the SLAS Laboratory Automation Section or a JALA subscriber. Nonmembers and nonsubscribers may access JALA Online on a pay-per-view basis. Or better yet, they can become members by visiting SLAS.org.
JALA SAGE Track
JALA’s manuscript submission and management system also has moved. The new JALA SAGE Track can be reached through SLAS.org or directly at http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/jala. User data for authors and reviewers who were registered in JALA’s previous system (EES/Elsevier Editorial System) were migrated to the new JALA SAGE Track system. New users can register quickly and easily by simply following the prompts.
JALA E-Mail Alerts
All JALA readers are invited and encouraged to sign up for complimentary JALA E-mail Alerts, which ensure you will be among the first to know when new issues become available at JALA Online (tables of contents will be sent to you) and when new, not-yet-published-in-print manuscripts become available via JALA OnlineFirst (articles in press). You also can register to receive search and CiteTrack alerts from JALA and other SAGE journals. You can access the JALA E-mail Alerts sign-up form through SLAS.org or directly at jala.sagepub.com/cgi/alerts.
Author Workshop at SLAS2012
Attendees at the First Annual SLAS Conference and Exhibition in San Diego, California, are invited to join JALA and the Journal of Biomolecular Screening (JBS) for an Author Workshop on Wednesday, February 8, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the San Diego Convention Center Mezzanine Level Room 12. The session, titled “Learn New Ways to Increase Citations of Your Article,” will explain how authors today can have a tremendous impact on how their papers are discovered and used throughout the scientific community. The presentation will showcase new tips and trends for promoting your work and increasing citations of your work. In addition, there will be boxed lunches and door prize drawings.
Calling All Authors
In the meantime, JALA continues to welcome submissions of previously unpublished scientific manuscripts on an ongoing basis from SLAS members and nonmembers. JALA is interested in scientific content that reflects how members of our expanding scientific community are conducting research and developing new technologies to increase productivity, elevate data quality, reduce lab process cycle times, or enable experimentation that otherwise would be impossible.
