Abstract
This paper surveys the problems and attempted solutions for preparation of human gynecologic cytology specimens for automated analysis. Topics discussed include: (a) specimen collection, (b) mucus elimination, (c) cell dispersal, (d) specimen filtration and (e) artifact.
