Abstract

As 2024 ends, we would like to recognize the great things GSJ has achieved this year. 2024 was a fantastic year for the journal, showing years of growth leading to the current state of the journal. The biggest achievement this year was another increase in our Impact Factor, which continues to grow with each year. We are optimistic that the number will continue to rise as we also had our largest number of downloads and citations this year. I am particularly happy to see the variety of authors and the different areas of the globe where our articles originate. Our goal was to be an international journal, representing the global nature of our academic society, and I can safely state that we are continuing to achieve our original mission statement.
Another great new addition to GSJ was the launch of the Global Spine Journal Club hosted by the Seattle Science Foundation. The journal club was launched live in Bangkok at the Global Spine Congress. This was a huge success with a large turnout both in person and virtually. Since then, we have also had two more virtual journal club sessions since then which have both been very popular. The journal club is now officially happening on a quarterly basis with the next session in January 2025. We have to thank our colleagues at the Seattle Science Foundation for their partnership and support.
We published three special issues sponsored by the AO Spine Knowledge Forums this year- “AO Spine & Praxis Spinal Cord Institute Guidelines for the Management of Acute Spinal Cord Injury”, “AO Spine Guideline for the Use of Osteobiologics (AOGO) in Anterior Cervical Discectomy and Fusion for Spinal Degenerative Cases developed by AO Spine Knowledge Forum Degenerative”, and “What Motivates Treatment Decisions in Neurologically Intact Thoracolumbar Burst Fractures?”
We will have more issues with the Knowledge Forums publishing next year, so look out for those announcements.
We had new articles launch this year from the AO Spine Knowledge Forum Reviews. These review articles are written by members of each of the various Knowledge Forums and they all are under the same theme of “Streamlining the Journey of Research Into Clinical Practice”. Then each of the Knowledge Forums provides clinical outcomes based on their particular area of expertise (IE: Tumor or Trauma). We have so far published the editorial and two articles, and more will be published next year and each following year as well.
The Global Spine Journal is the official journal of AO Spine, and we thank the organization for their ongoing support and partnership. From a global standpoint, we hope to continue to be a platform for their amazing output, knowledge, and membership, to disseminate the latest and best knowledge for the treatment of spinal pathologies.
We would also like to personally thank our editors, authors, reviewers, and readers. Without all of you GSJ would not be the success that it is today. We are so grateful to have all of you a part of the GSJ community and we hope you will continue to contribute to the journal’s success.
We hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday season.
