Abstract
This study reports the development and validation of a 15-item test for measuring spatial orientation (SO) ability in an egocentric and allocentric frame of reference (FoR) among high school students. Participants were aged between 7 years to 16 years of both genders. Three separate studies (n1 = 47; n2 = 135; n3 = 600) were conducted for the preliminary and final validation of the test. Item properties of the test were checked using a 2-parameter Logistic Model. Factor structure of the test was explored using Exploratory Factor Analysis and confirmed using a Measurement Model. The test items were found to be sufficiently discriminating and have adequate reliability and validity estimates. Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) showed acceptable fit measures and estimates for the model, suggesting a good fit. The newly developed test is a reliable, standardized, and a comprehensive measure for assessing SO ability within a short period of time.
