Abstract

Dear Editor, we would like to share our ideas on the publication “Monkeypox* Update (O’Keefe, 2022).” O’Keefe discussed the importance of emerging monkeypox and the implications for workplace health. We agree that monkeypox is an important public and occupational health problem and it is necessary to have a good dialogue on this topic. As such we would like to add that it is necessary to recognize that there is also an atypical presentation of monkeypox and there can also be asymptomatic cases, which contribute to difficulty in diagnosis (Joob & Wiwanitkit, 2022). Cases with no fever or hidden skin lesions are possible and can be the silent spreader. For these reasons, workplace screenings may not be completely effective. The idea of resuming the old vaccination is an interesting issue that should be discussed further in the literature. Again, as a new emerging problem, it is time that we prepare and engage in this urgent dialogue. It is still unknown how many silent carriers of monkeypox are currently circulating in workplaces.
