Abstract
This case study addresses some issues associated with sustainable tourism in connection with tours in the country of Tanzania. A tour operator based in the United States, who collaborates closely with community members and business owners in Tanzania, wants to enhance their tours to make them more focused on the triple bottom line of environmental, sociocultural, and economic sustainability. However, some complex issues are occurring with regard to some of the major tourism-related activities, including climbs of Mount Kilimanjaro and interactions with the Maasai people. The case study provides background information related to these issues, concentrating on sustainable tourism in connection with the various stakeholders and social exchange theory, and describes the dilemma that focuses on how to address these issues to make the tours in Tanzania more sustainable.
