Abstract

At the request of Sage and the Managing Editors, the following article has been retracted:
Bodani, N., Lal, A., Maqsood, A., Altamash, S., Ahmed, N., & Heboyan, A. (2023). Knowledge, Attitude, and Practices of General Population Toward Utilizing ChatGPT: A Cross-sectional Study. Sage Open, 13(4). https://doi.org/10.1177/21582440231211079
A reader contacted the editors with concerns over the results of the reported data.:
The reader raised concerns regarding the uniformity of the reported response numbers:
In Table 1, the frequency results are all values that are multiples of five.
In Tables 2, 4, and 6, the response numbers to the questions given to the participants are all multiples of five.
The reader raised further concerns over data inconsistencies:
The reported sample size is stated to be 525 participants.
In Tables 4, the sum of the first question’s responses states a total of 495 participants.
In Table 6, the sum of the seventh question’s responses states a total of 520 participants.
The authors were contacted for comment and to provide the raw data underlying this study. The authors could not explain the inconsistencies in the reported participant numbers in Tables 4 and 6, only requesting a correction.
Regarding the uniformity of the data values, the authors explained this occurred due to their methodology in reporting the results. The authors state they rounded the survey response numbers to the nearest whole number whenever a decimal occurred in their results. However, this approach is not disclosed to the editor or the peer reviewers of this article.
Due to the unresolved concerns about the data integrity that call into question the validity of the findings the Managing Editor retracts the article.
N.A., A.H., and S.A. responded disagreeing to the decision. All other authors did not respond in the designated timeframe of being notified of this retraction.
