Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of a 7-week attitudinal empowerment group with 9th grade Latino males to support their academic growth through focus on the attitudes, knowledge, and skills needed to navigate high school curricula and develop the rigor needed for post-secondary preparation. The group focused on identification of strengths and assets, cultural wealth, and the development of strategies and skills transferrable to their academic learning and socioemotional well-being. Results indicate some growth in the areas of knowledge, skills, and attitudes to achieve academic success, college and career readiness, and social/emotional development. This article includes the group lesson plan and discusses implications from the group.
