Abstract
School counselors offer a variety of interventions and programs as part of their comprehensive school counseling program. However, the degree to which they use implementation science (IS) strategies when delivering these services is unclear. We interviewed seven school counselors who were leading or had led a Recognized ASCA Model Program (RAMP), to explore their use of implementation strategies. We conducted a deductive qualitative analysis (DQA) using the School Implementation Strategies, Translating ERIC Resources (SISTER) compilation. Findings suggested that school counselors use implementation strategies that most readily align with the ASCA National Model. These strategies include conducting need assessments, using advisory boards, and communicating with students and families. However, school counselors often overlook strategies that could support their efforts to deliver effective interventions and programs. School counselors are encouraged to explore IS and consider how these strategies can enhance their comprehensive school counseling program and efficiently support student success.
