Abstract
There is a need to reevaluate the significance of a father’s role and the impact he has on his child’s life; however, there are currently no scales measuring people’s attitudes about fathers. The Myths and Attitudes About Fathers (MAAF) Scale was created in the following four stages: development (generation of item pool), administration, evaluation, and finalization. Responses from 212 participants were used to confirm reliability and validity through coefficient α (.948) and exploratory factor analysis. The factor analysis resulted in five factors reflecting fatherhood. Results from the evaluation phase were used to create the final MAAF Scale.
