Abstract
As clinical training evolves alongside increasing service pressures, the role of the educator in urology has never been more important. This article reflects on what makes a good trainer, not just in terms of technical ability, but through the lens of mentorship, feedback, professionalism, and adaptability.
Drawing on published guidance, we outline key attributes of effective trainers across five domains. We also consider the real-world challenges faced by educators and the opportunities presented.
Personal reflections reinforce that great training is built on trust, presence, and prioritising trainee development, even amid clinical demands. With practical tips for both trainers and trainees, this piece aims to support a culture where education is valued and excellence in training is seen as integral to excellence in care.
