Abstract
This is the first issue of Therapeutic Advances in Infectious Disease. We are the journal’s Associate Editors, together with the International Editorial Board and SAGE Publications, we would like to welcome you to the journal.
Our aim is to publish editorials, reviews, and original research articles that advance clinical practice in this rapidly developing area of medicine. Essential elements of the journal include a speedy but rigorous peer review and publication process so that the latest opinion and evidence may be disseminated to a wide audience. The team of Associate Editors and the International Editorial Board bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to this journal, which will help to facilitate the highest standards of publishing. Our growing list of Editorial Board members may be found on the adjacent page, and we would like to thank everyone for agreeing to participate in the process of making this a scientifically credible and clinically relevant journal.
Invited review articles will focus on therapeutic options, place in therapy, management guidance and single-drug/drug-class reviews. As we specialize in rapid publication of peer-reviewed papers, you may wish to submit your next original research manuscript to us, rather than wait for relatively longer publication times in some of the more established journals. Lastly, we welcome you to submit Letters to the Editor on any viewpoint, or to discuss any unique case or case series. We aim to complete peer review and reach a first decision on a paper within 3 weeks; accepted articles will be published online within 7 weeks. We will set high standards in peer review, with each research and review article being reviewed by at least two referees. Topics and diseases covered include emerging therapies for viral, bacterial, fungal, and other infections. Subjects such as tropical infections, hospital-acquired infections, and public health issues will also be covered.
Therapeutic Advances in Infectious Disease is the thirteenth title in SAGE’s Therapeutic Advances series, following titles in Cardiovascular Disease, Respiratory Disease, Neurological Disorders, Gastroenterology, Medical Oncology, Urology, Musculoskeletal Disease, Drug Safety, Chronic Disease, Hematology, Endocrinology and Metabolism, and Psychopharmacology. Of interest to some readers of this title will also be the forthcoming Therapeutic Advances in Vaccines, to be launched later this year.
Therapeutic Advances in Infectious Disease will be made freely available on the Highwire platform, and (following a short interval), articles will be made available on PubMed Central. We and the Publisher aim to make the journal an attractive option for authors seeking a home for their articles. We will be publishing bi-monthly from February 2013, with 6 issues each year, both in print and online. Articles will be published ‘Online First’ ahead of publication in an issue.
