Abstract

I’m honoured to take on the role of Editor-in-Chief, and I’m grateful to the British Pain Society for this opportunity and their support. I’m privileged to follow the dedicated individuals who have influenced this journal, specifically my predecessors, Felicia Cox and Dr. Roger Knaggs. Under Felicia and Roger’s direction, our journal has grown to serve not only our national membership but also to make an impact internationally. Their dedication to excellence and the hard work of the entire editorial team have been crucial in creating a journal with a respectable impact factor of 1.8.
My vision for the future of our journal is clear: to build upon the groundwork established by Flick and Roger and propel it further into excellence. Maintaining the journal’s outstanding reputation is crucial and I am committed to upholding the rigorous standards associated with our publication. I am also excited to explore new avenues, encourage cross-disciplinary collaboration, and adopt innovative approaches to provide fresh perspectives to our readers. I will proactively search for pioneering research that expands our comprehension of pain and its management.
To achieve these goals, I’m eager to expand the editorial board. I invite anyone, including early-career, mid-career, and senior scientists interested in working with me and the current editorial board to reach out. We’re looking for psychologists, pharmacists, physiotherapists, interventionists, physicians, and anyone with a genuine interest in research. The only prerequisites are methodological or clinical expertise and a sincere commitment to providing constructive feedback in the spirit of developing the work of individual authors and collectively pushing the field of pain research forward.
If you don’t have the time to join the Editorial Board, please consider reviewing papers for the journal. We often face reviewer burnout, and the work of reviewers is crucial to the success of any journal, including BJP. Our goal is to ensure a constructive, value-added review process for authors, irrespective of whether their submissions are ultimately accepted.
With a deep sense of responsibility and enthusiasm, I look forward to serving as Editor-in-Chief and meeting as many of you as possible to discuss your ideas for contributing to BJP. I am excited to see how we all contribute to BJP’s evolution and growth over the next 3 years.
