Abstract
Visual novels are digital creations that combine fictional narratives and interactive games, designed as hypermedia systems. The development of digital technology has made visual novels gradually develop from static narratives to multimodal narrative forms with greater interactivity and immersion. Based on the literature material, this paper combs through the development history of visual novels and takes the classic cases in the development of visual novels as the reference basis, summarises the presentation forms of visual novels, analyzes the typical characteristics of visual novels in the digital era from the narrative perspective, and proposes the future innovation direction of visual novels in the AIGC era.
