Abstract
This paper deals with the EU law principle of non-discrimination applied to age. The study focuses on the key concepts of Directive 2000/78, exploring the inspiration of this Directive. Taking into account gender equality directives, it points out limitations as regards age discrimination, due to the number of exceptions and derogations of the principle, allowed by the Directive in this area. Furthermore, the study explores the practices of the Member States when applying the non-discrimination principle in relation to age and examines the tendencies of ECJ ruling in this respect.
