Abstract
This contribution has been made in light of the annual seminar organized by the European Labour Law Network (ELLN) in The Hague, November 2010. The theme of the seminar was “Protection, Involvement and Adaptation – European Labour Law in Time of Crisis, Restructuring and Transition”. For reasons of preparation and background information a number of keynote papers were drafted. Two of them have been finalized after the seminar in the form of academic contributions. This contribution concerns the paper drafted by professor François Gaudu and discusses the subject of redundancies for economic motives. The second paper, drafted by professor Niklas Bruun and discussing employee participation rights and business restructuring, can be found elsewhere in this Journal.
