Abstract
Because of widely available computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging, the number of asymptomatic and/or minimally symptomatic cases of “incidental” subdural hematomas/collections apparently increased. MR images in sixteen cases of asymptomatic subdural space widening (aged 3 months to 84 years old) were reviewed. Etiology and clinical courses were correlated with MR findings. A rapid decrease in the brain volume presumably results in subdural space widening and subdural hematoma / collection because of rigid calvarium.
