L'uso di apparecchi ad alto campo magnetico e di bobine di contatto permette una valutazione anatomo-morfologica ottimale del contenuto endo-orbitario. Nelle lesioni più frequenti del bulbo oculare la RM ha sensibility pari e specificità maggiore rispetto alla TC. Nella patologia orbitaria extrabulbare la sensibilità è, salvo alcune eccezioni, sovrapponibile a quella offerta dalla TC e per alcune entity patologiche esistono maggiori elementi di specificità.
