L'iniezione di mezzo di contrasto per via intratecale in corso di Tomografia Computerizzata, è stata usata per vari anni, a livello dei distretti vertebro-midollare e cranio-encefalico per migliorare la definizione anatomica e per avere informazioni sulla dinamica liquorale.
L'avvento degli apparecchi per Tomografia Computerizzata «ad alta risoluzione» e, negli ultimi anni, della Tomografia a Risonanza Magnetica, richiede una revisione delle indicazioni attuali e della validità di questa metodica.
