Abstract
We have developed and tested a portable audiosystem that will allow as many as 14 persons to listen simultaneously to pulmonary and cardiac sounds when an instructor places a central stethomicrophone on a patient's chest. This system facilitates the teaching and learning of chest auscultation in the clinical setting because it (1) helps to ensure that the student hears what the instructor intends, (2) minimizes patient discomfort by allowing everyone in the group to listen simultaneously rather than in groups of two or three in succession, and (3) provides a means of effectively recording sounds at the bedside for future educational purposes.
