How School Nurses Can Engage in Legislative Advocacy

Abstract

The role of the school nurse includes advocacy in all its forms. This important responsibility is highlighted in both the Scope and Standards of School Nursing and the School Nursing Practice Framework. The NASN advocates at the federal and state levels to support and improve student health and safety. Most of these initiatives are more compelling if practicing nurses participate. This article describes NASN resources available to school nurses to easily participate in legislative advocacy.
