American Medical Society for Sports Medicine (AMSSM)
$90,000 in Research Grants Available From AMSSM Foundation
The AMSSM Foundation, in conjunction with the AMSSM Research Committee, is pleased to offer the AMSSM Foundation Research Grant Award program for a 17th year, including grants for the AMSSM New Investigator Research Award and the Collaborative Research Network (CRN) Mentorship Grant.
AMSSM New Investigator Research Grant Award ($15,000 per year) - deadline of October 3, 2025. Current AMSSM fellows and residents are eligible to apply.
AMSSM Research Grant Award ($50,000 per year) - deadline of November 7, 2025. To be eligible, the primary investigator must be an AMSSM member.
AMSSM-ACSM Breaking Barriers Research Grant Award ($20,000 per year) - Deadline of February 2026. This new grant seeks to address the health and wellbeing of traditionally underrepresented communities in sports medicine. Look for more details on the AMSSM website.
AMSSM CRN Mentorship Grants ($2500 per year) - deadline of March 30, 2026. The purpose of this award is to create an environment that fosters mentorship and support for promising early-career physicians wishing to seek extramural research funding as part of their future career goals.
AMSSM also recently increased the funding for its Open CRN Award, which is awarded every other year, from $300,000 to $400,000. Applications for this award will open next year.

Abstracts for the 2026 AMSSM Annual Meeting from April 23 to 29 in Seattle are now being accepted. To view complete guidelines and submit, log in to the AMSSM website and access the Abstract Submission link under Education or visit www.amssm.org/Submissions.html.
Prospective members interested in presenting/submitting an abstract must join AMSSM before the Abstract submission deadlines, rather than waiting until the abstract is accepted. If they apply now, their membership will run through 2026. Please encourage those interested to apply for membership.

Sports Health Announces New Award of Excellence
Sports Health is pleased to introduce the Frank and JoAnne Noyes Award of Excellence, generously supported by Frank Noyes and the Cincinnati SportsMedicine Research and Education Foundation. This award honors exceptional clinical or laboratory research advancing safe, injury-free athletic participation for female athletes. Although interdisciplinary teams (e.g., MD-PhD, PT/ATC) are encouraged, collaboration is not required. The inaugural award will be presented at the 2026 AOSSM Annual Meeting in Seattle, with all accepted and current Sports Health submissions on female athlete care eligible for award consideration.
2026 Special Issue on the Female Athlete
To celebrate the newly announced Frank and JoAnne Noyes Award of Excellence, Sports Health is planning a 2026 Special Issue on the Female Athlete, led by Sports Health Associate Editor for Athletic Training, Riann Palmieri-Smith, PhD, ATC. This is the first in a series of cobranded microcredentials created by NATA and the Board of Certification for the Athletic Trainer designed to empower athletic trainers with specialized, evidence-based competencies.
