AASPT Names New Director of Marketing and Communications
The AASPT is pleased to announce the addition of Liv Martin as the Academy’s new Director of Marketing and Communications. A 2016 graduate from The Kelley School of Business at Indiana University–Purdue University Indianapolis, Liv served as the Digital Marketing Specialist at the Indiana Blood Center and as the Digital Marketing Specialist at Beam, Longest & Neff—a civil engineering firm in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Liv will take over many of the day-to-day marketing and communications duties of the Academy, including member communications, website maintenance, and Academy marketing. If you’d like to connect with Liv, she can be reached by email at

AMSSM Conducts 2020 Virtual Meeting With All Lectures and Meetings Available for Playback
Following the cancellation of the 2020 Annual Meeting, AMSSM’s leadership conducted a virtual, non-CME version of the conference over the original dates of the Annual Meeting from April 25 to April 29.
The virtual meeting drew almost 6000 registrations across all courses, meetings, and lectures and included the following highlights:

Collaborative Research Network (CRN) Announces Timeline for $1 Million in Future Research Grant Opportunities
In collaboration with AMSSM and the AMSSM Foundation, the CRN is excited to announce its intention to provide continued research grant opportunities to AMSSM members for the next 4 years. The CRN intends to release requests for proposals based on the following schedule:
March 2020: $300,000 AMSSM-CRN Research Award
March 2021: $150,000 AMSSM-CRN Bridge to R34 Research Award
March 2022: $300,000 AMSSM-CRN Research Award
March 2023: $150,000 AMSSM-CRN Bridge to R34 Research Award

Published on a quarterly basis, the Sports Medicine Legal Digest was created to keep athletic trainers informed on current legal issues that could affect their daily practice. Each issue features case summaries and columns related to professional responsibility and ethics. The summer edition takes a closer look at employment during a national crisis, including the importance of personal liability insurance when working per diem and what to know about labor laws and unemployment. NATA COVID-19 Resources Available Online
As we all navigate these unprecedented times, NATA is proactively addressing the COVID-19 pandemic on numerous fronts. The NATA COVID-19 resource page features many helpful tools and information for athletic trainers. These resources include committee-created documents to help athletic trainers as they shift into a new setting, as well as use this time to improve professionally or transition back into the athletic training facility. The Pre-Return and Return-to-Campus Preparation and Communication Plan was created by the NATA Intercollegiate Council for Sports Medicine to assist collegiate athletic departments as they strategize a safe return to campus and athletic activity after the COVID-19 pandemic. This document can be personalized to reflect campus-specific policies and resources.
