Abstract

American Academy of Sports Physical Therapy (AASPT)
AASPT Creates 2 New Committees to Advance the Field of Sports Physical Therapy
AASPT has created 2 new committees to advance the field of sports physical therapy: AASPT Research and AASPT Practice.
AASPT Research is currently working on a variety of ways in which AASPT can improve research within the specialty. For the first time this year, AASPT will have a poster session at the Team Concept Conference (December 5-7, 2019, in Las Vegas). AASPT Research will also be working with the Executive Committee on the Legacy Fund, collaborating with other professional organizations, and selecting Combined Sections Meeting (CSM) research platforms and poster presentations. Dr Bryan Heiderscheit will be the leader of AASPT Research.
AASPT Practice was recently established to focus on the primary areas unique to Sports Physical Therapy practice. This includes, but is not limited to, the “Pillars of Sports Physical Therapy” as outlined at the AASPT Business Meeting at CSM. These pillars are important for sports physical therapists to live out in practice, to advocate for patients and other health providers, and to educate nonmembers about methods by which sports physical therapists interact with the athletes they serve.
