Abstract

National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA)
Calling all athletic training educators! The Athletic Training Educators’ Conference (ATEC) will be held January 11-13, 2013, in Dallas, Texas. The theme is “Athletic Training Education: Model Practice and Future Directions.”
ATEC 2013 offers 7 plenary and 12 breakout sessions. Additional highlights include a welcome reception, exhibits, poster presentations, a model practice showcase that will provide quick-hit presentations on future directions in athletic training and the Distinguished Athletic Training Educator Luncheon.
Held January 11-12 in conjunction with ATEC, iLead 2013 is an excellent opportunity for athletic training students to learn leadership skills. iLead attendees should be NATA members who are juniors, seniors, or graduate students. Topics include social media and professional pitfalls, an ethics study, job interview preparation, a roadmap for the first 5 years working in the athletic training profession, and more!
Athletic training students can also take advantage of the ACES Preparatory Workshop, January 9-11. Students planning to take the Board of Certification (BOC) examination for athletic training certification within the next 9 months can benefit from this workshop, which is designed to prepare you to successfully complete the examination. Each domain of the BOC Role Delineation Study—the “blueprint” for the BOC examination—will be closely investigated, with review of the most recent changes. Every participant will leave the workshop with an individualized action plan to enhance his or her preparation for the BOC examination.

NCAA to Allow Access to Member Website for NCAA Team Physicians
The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) has agreed to grant access to the member side of NCAA.org for AOSSM members who are serving as team physicians for an NCAA institution. The NCAA member website has links to numerous resources and information (eg, topical articles, forms, rule changes) that are not available on the public side of the website. The website content includes information about rules and bylaws, eligibility, compliance, drug testing, recruiting, scholarships, and calendars. Of perhaps greatest interest to AOSSM members is the Health and Safety page, which has links to educational materials on issues of greatest concern to the NCAA (eg, sickle cell trait, concussions, substance abuse). Fact sheets that provide NCAA injury data summaries for women’s volleyball, men’s and women’s soccer, football, and field hockey can be downloaded with information for other sports to be available soon. Researchers who are interested in obtaining deidentified data from the NCAA Injury Surveillance Program can obtain information about how to request these data. Members are also able to sign up for an e-mail alert for new postings of material.
To request access to the members’ side of NCAA.org, please send your name, preferred e-mail address, and college or university affiliations with sports covered to AOSSM Director of Research, Bart Mann (
