Sports Physical Therapy Section (SPTS)
Charity Golf Tournament
The SPTS Golf and Golf Performance Special Interest Group is sponsoring a charity golf tournament in conjunction with the Team Concept Conference to benefit the American Lake Veterans Golf Course. The tournament will be held November 30, 2011, at the Rhodes Ranch Golf Course in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The American Lake Veterans Golf Course was created to enable disabled veterans to rehabilitate themselves both physically and emotionally, so all military personnel and veterans can enjoy the benefits of golf in a positive, therapeutic, and accepting social environment.
SPTS and the SPTS Golf and Golf Performance Special Interest Group is pleased to sponsor this event so that those who have served our country can continue their favorite sport beyond the battlefield and rehabilitation facility. Individuals play for only $150, and foursomes are $600. Prizes, awards, and dinner are all included in the tournament. You can register at www.spts.org/spts-store/tcc-golf-tournament.
We are also searching for sponsors for this tournament. Do you have prizes to donate? Would you like to be a sponsor? You can find more information at www.spts.org/team-concept-conference/golf-outing/sponsorships. You may also contact Mary Wilkinson, SPTS marketing director, at 317.501.0805.
Help give back to those who have given so much and have fun at the same time!

Recruits Needed for Young Pitchers Studies
The AOSSM launched 2 research projects in 2011 that focus on elbow and shoulder problems in young pitchers (9 to 18 years old). The first is a survey-based study that assesses the extent to which young pitchers engage in types and levels of throwing that may put them at risk for overuse injuries. The second project will target pitchers who seek treatment from an orthopaedic surgeon, and it will explore the relationships among pitching variables, elbow and shoulder overuse injuries, and adaptive changes to the elbow and shoulder. AOSSM members have collected data from more than 900 young pitchers already, but we are hoping to get surgeons from more states involved.
If you are interested in participating or would like additional information, please e-mail AOSSM director of research Bart Mann at
