Abstract

NATIONAL ATHLETIC TRAINERS’ ASSOCIATION (NATA)
Organizations Partner to Develop National Physical Activity Plan
NATA has joined the National Physical Activity Plan as an organizational partner, joining 11 other organizations to develop, release, and implement a comprehensive National Physical Activity Plan for the United States. This plan will act as the catalyst for creating the environment that will give all Americans the opportunity to meet the Physical Activity Guidelines established by the US Department of Health and Human Services last year.
John Arthur Mayes Day Established in Recognition of Contribution to Athletic Training
A year following the establishment of a $50,000 scholarship endowment in his name, John Mayes, MS, ATC, LAT, has been commended by Texas State Representative Sylvester Turner, Harris County Commissioner El Franco Lee, and Houston Mayor Bill White. In addition, the Texas House of Representatives provided a resolution of commendation for his efforts toward promoting diversity in the profession of athletic training. It recognized his advocacy for cultural diversity, and because of his leadership, Mayor White proclaimed June 19, 2009, as John Arthur Mayes Day in Houston, Texas. The endowment for the NATA Research & Education Foundation provides research and education scholarships to ethnically diverse, entry-level graduate students studying athletic training and sports medicine.
