Abstract
In this article, I catalog the lessons I have learned from reading beyond the qualitative inquiry canon. The catalog offers lessons based on seven infinitive verbs and/or verb phrases—to be patient, to tend, to linger, to love, to not say anything and/or say something, to be humble, and to listen. These inquiry lessons are drawn from a lifetime of reading poetry, numerous genres of fiction, nonfiction, plays, and other texts. These verbs and lessons materialize an iteration of qualitative inquiry that is characterized as a graceful business that centers ethical practices.
