Collective action theory was applied to predict the pattern of adoption of nonlinear video editing in local television newsrooms. A census of small market stations in a southern state over three points in time suggest an accelerating production function of adoption that will eventually result in 100% adoption of nonlinear editing in the stations surveyed. Implications of the findings for theory, industry, and academia are discussed.
