Abstract
This article addresses some of the main means through which the Statistical Conference of the Americas promotes the Fundamental Principles of Official Statistics in Latin America and the Caribbean. It describes regional guidelines generated by the Conference that have a direct role in driving compliance with the Fundamental Principles, such as the Generic Law of Official Statistics and the Regional Code of Good Practice in Statistics. The article provides a brief overview of the state of affairs in the region concerning basic elements for the implementation of the FPOS, such as the statistical legislation and access to administrative records and the challenges ahead.
