Abstract
This article explores the gender themes and issues that have concerned contributors to Australian Pre-School Quarterly (APQ) and the Australian Journal of Early Childhood (AJEC) in the past 40 years. It details those themes and issues and links them to changing views of how gender is learned and practised, and to differing traditions within feminism and changing theoretical fames for making sense of gender in our lives. These links are used to raise questions about how practitioners can and should think about gender in their programs in the early parts of the 21st century and to possible research agendas for the future.
