Abstract
Information technology will have a significant impact on the role of the medical record administrator within the next decade. In this paper, the author discusses some of the ramifications of the increasing use of information technology; the likely impact of new technology on health information systems; and the need for medical record administrators to be sufficiently familiar with the technology to recognise where and how it can usefully be applied in health information management. A set of minimum competence standards for medical record administrators is provided.
