Antibiotic resistance was the main theme of the 11th European Congress of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ECCMID), held in Istanbul on 1 to 4 April. According to European Society President-Elect Professor Roger Finch, resistance affects the health of patients and increases healthcare costs.
